"It wasn't just about the food — it was about the warmth, laughter, and connection."

Our Story

Every Dish

Tells a Story

ATOW didn’t start in a kitchen. It started with a feeling — a longing for home, a love for connection, and a deep belief that great food should be within everyone’s reach.

01

Growing up

Sitting on the Living Room Floor

Growing up, I was a picky eater when it came to Nigerian food. But I loved soups — especially those with okra. They remind me of my parents, my siblings, and my cousins all sitting on the floor in the living room, sharing a meal together. It wasn’t just about the food; it was about the warmth, laughter, and connection that came with it.

"Cooking became my love language — a way to connect with people."

02

A love story

When Cooking Became a Love Language

Cooking wasn’t something I ever imagined would become such a big part of my life — let alone lead me to start my own business. It all started with a simple love story. Cooking became my love language, a way to connect with people.

At first, it wasn’t about business — it was about impressing someone whose opinion I cared about. I didn’t realise it at the time, but that moment shaped everything. He told me I should take it seriously. That stuck with me. It made me see cooking in a different light — not just as something I loved doing, but as something worth pursuing.

03

Difficult Times

Food as Comfort

As I got older, my relationship with food changed. I started experimenting more, learning new dishes like lasagne, Jamaican brown stew chicken, and macaroni and cheese. After going through a difficult time in my life, food became a comfort — something I could turn to. But when it came to Nigerian food, I often felt overwhelmed.

University Life

Missing the Taste of Home

At university, I missed my mum’s cooking so much, but everything felt overly complicated. I’d spend hours watching YouTube tutorials, following every step, yet somehow, the taste was never quite right. I wished there was something simpler — something that guided me, step by step, and made West African cooking easy. That’s when the idea for ATOW was born.
